Introduction to Author Update

Welcome to the first Author Update from Palmer Higgs!

In this monthly newsletter for self-publishing authors we’ll be aiming to bring you news, information and resources to help you make the most of your publishing projects.

2009 was Palmer Higgs’ first full year of providing services for self-publishing authors. We started cautiously, making the transition from providing services to the major publishers to working with individual authors, with some trepidation! At the end of the year we reviewed our experience of ‘putting a toe in the water’ and we could see that there is a strong need for our services for the self-published author.

We were very confident about our ability to design, layout and produce high quality books — after all we’ve being doing that for many years! It became apparent, however, that our authors needed help in many other areas — particularly the marketing and distribution aspects. We have therefore spent a lot of time and effort in the past year coming to grips with your needs in these areas and working out the most viable ways to help.

As Paul’s strength lies in the production area, the marketing side fell to me! Not surprising as marketing (despite a degree in French Literature) was my role in a previous corporate life! During the past twelve months I have enjoyed a hectic schedule, working closely with some of you on your projects and trying to oversee the strong growth we were experiencing in this area. In the next few months we will be implementing some strategies to enable every author we deal with to easily access the relevant information needed to make your own publishing project, however large or small, a success.
