Introducing Julie O’Connell-Seamer

Many of you will have recently spoken to or met Julie, who joined the Palmer Higgs team in January, so we thought we’d introduce her officially!

With a grandfather who edited at Melbourne’s Age newspaper and many other literary relatives it’s no surprise that Julie’s always been fascinated with words. After completing a double major in Journalism and Literature at University she was fortunate to break into the cut-throat Industry of radio news, moving onto PR when realising with her then 20 year old clarity, it perhaps wasn’t so easy to change the world through positive reporting alone!

Julie O'Connell-SeamerA booming media career and many travels followed until Julie contracted a post-viral syndrome leaving her partially paralysed. Three months of hospitalisation brought her no closer to mobility so she discharged herself from hospital confinement against medical advice, bound to a wheelchair but eventually healed and walking again through the support of meditation and natural therapies. This transformation inspired her to become a Naturopath, later writing for health and fitness websites, magazines and journals.

Whenever Julie isn’t now happily supporting Palmer Higgs Self-Published Authors and reading endless new manuscripts, she also enjoys writing (has written 2 books on post natal wellness and motherhood), leading and participating in Adventure Group activities with the Victorian National Parks Association (VNPA), yoga practice and horse-riding. Her favourite reads are vast and many; from the fruitless pursuit of keeping abreast with print news to bedtime stories with her 6 year old daughter Kayli, inspiring biographies, self-help and business books, travelogues, diaries of Colonial Australians, fiction "for inner journeys" and longing deliberations over the Horse Deals and Property mags!

A lover of mantras and quotes Julie's favourite of all lines is simply the opening verse from the Dr Suess book Oh the Places You’ll Go:
Congratulations!
Today is your day…
You’re off to great places!
You’re off and Away!
